Michael Calico Sculpture


Michael Patton, also known as Michael Calico, is an enrolled member of the Oglála Lakȟóta Nation and a descendant of the Isleta Pueblo people. Calico was born and raised on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota. Calico is a multidisciplinary artist working with mediums such as metal fabrication, graphic design, serigraphy, and cultural arts. His practice extends beyond object-making into community building and cultural engagement. Through independently designed apparel, Calico has supported grassroots poetry initiatives and helped create platforms for emerging voices. Work includes organizing artist gatherings that center on collaboration, shared creativity, and the exchange of ideas, as well as facilitating after-school programs that introduce youth to artistic expression and storytelling. These efforts reflect a commitment to nurturing creative spaces rooted in connection, mentorship, and cultural continuity.
